 We stopped and had lunch at the edge of Awaroa Bay, where we had a good view of this “bach” – a New Zealand term for a holiday house – that was designed by Ian Athfield. Both Athfield and the bach were later honoured: Athfield was knighted two weeks prior to his death in 2015, and his (by now considerably enlarged) bach won an Enduring Architecture award in 2016. |
