Fourteen months after Eric's crossed hiking poles at the trailhead had illustrated the failure of our first attempt to climb Borah Peak, the fact that Eric was now raising them in triumph signified the success of our second attempt. We arrived back at the trailhead at 2:00 pm – eight-and-three-quarter hours after setting out in the morning for the summit, and a little more than three-and-a-half hours after leaving the summit and starting our descent. Charlie and Diane Winger's guide book puts the "average round trip hiking time" for Borah Peak at between seven and twelve hours, so we had good reason to be pleased with our effort. |
