 Florida was ceded to the United States by Spain in 1819 and became a state of the Union in 1845. Low-lying and swampy, it’s been said that “Florida as we know it would not exist without air conditioning.” However, the Florida we do know is one of the fastest growing states in the USA and is currently the fourth-largest state in terms of population (Florida has about 20 million inhabitants – a figure exceeded only by California, Texas, and New York). |
