Getting there: The Chatham Islands are in a time-zone of their own: they are 45 minutes ahead of the rest of New Zealand (i.e., 12 hours and 45 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time). After a flight lasting an hour and three-quarters, we landed at the Chatham Islands airport at 7:40 pm local time. As a result, it was – slightly ironically – pitch dark when we arrived on the islands that promote themselves as “First to see the sun”. |
