The Chatham Islands



Geography: Given that the Chatham Islands are proclaimed to be “First to see the sun”, it is appropriate to begin this examination of the geography of the islands with a photograph looking across Pitt Island farmyard pastures and up at Hakepa (sometimes also known as Mt Hakepa, 231 metres / 758 feet above sea-level), which is also known as Walk-em-Up Hill (because it was too steep for a horse to be ridden up).
