 History: Moriori also made these petroglyphs – namely, stone carvings – in limestone that’s near the shores of the Te Whanga Lagoon. It is thought – but it’s also not entirely certain – that some of the squiggly shapes represent seals, which were an important source of food and fur for the islands’ original settlers and their descendants. |
