 History: The Moriori population of the islands was not large. It has been estimated that it may have grown to around 2,000. As a result, they were able to live off the land. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers. This is a photograph of old seal bones at a Moriori campsite in sand dunes beside the coast on Rangihaute / Pitt Island. |
