 History: Susan Thorpe – wife of Maui Solomon, a grandson of Tommy Solomon – welcomed us onto the Kopinga marae, and told us about Moriori and the marae’s history. The central beam of the meeting house (which can be seen near the left-hand edge of the picture) bears the names of over 1,500 ancestors who were alive in 1835. |
