 Fauna and flora: My final fauna photo is of a weka. They were released on the Chathams in 1905 and are now so prolific that (a) some Islanders refer to themselves as ‘wekas’ rather than as ‘kiwis’, and (b) weka are not protected on the islands; indeed, they’re often killed and eaten. |
