Cycling in Tasmania, 2006

Introduction: Tasmania is the smallest of Australia’s six states, in terms both of area and of population. The island state is only 68,401 square kilometres in size (constituting less than one per cent of the area of Australia as a whole), and in the 2006 census the population of the state was just under 475,000, which was less than a fortieth of the population of Australia. But small is beautiful, and Tasmania is – for a host of reasons – my favourite Australian state.
