Drakensberg mountains, April 1961

This is a black-and-white photograph that I took in April 1962 from a spot near our 1961 base camp. The area we climbed in is roughly above the clump of trees in the left-hand half of the picture. The peak on the skyline directly above the left-hand edge of the trees is Indumeni Dome (10,679 feet / 3,255 metres). The notch at the end of the right-hand slope down from the top of Indumeni Dome is Organ Pipes Pass. The peak on the skyline roughly above the middle of the stand of trees is Castle Buttress (10,016 feet / 3,053 metres), and the highest peak in the photograph (i.e., on the skyline just past the right-hand edge of the trees) is Cleft Peak (10,764 feet / 3,281metres).
