Drakensberg mountains, July 1962

When we reached the Drakensberg plateau, we were rewarded with this magnificent view. From left to right, the peaks are the Eastern Buttress (3,047 metres / 9,997 feet), the Devil’s Tooth and – immediately next to and below it – the Toothpick, the Inner Tower’s Three Summits, and (on the right-hand edge of the picture) Mt Amery, the summit of which is 3,143 metres / 10,312 feet above sea-level.
