Europe, 1963

I went to Coventry in late-November 1963 especially to see the cityís new cathedral, which had been opened only 18 months earlier. Basil Spence designed this striking building both to incorporate and replace the cityís old Gothic cathedral, which was bombed during World War II. Itís formally known as St Michaelís Cathedral, and thereís a large sculpture by Jacob Epstein of St Michaelís Victory over the Devil near the main entrance to the cathedral.
