The Heaphy Track |
 This photograph of part of a Department of Conservation map of the Heaphy Track shows where we went. On Saturday, 17 October 2009, we hiked from the start of the track near Brown Hut up to the Perry Saddle Hut (marked with a red “1” in this photo), where we spent our first night. On 18 October, we walked from the Perry Saddle Hut via the Gouland Downs Hut to Saxon Hut (“2”), where we spent our second night on the track. The next day – 19 October – was another short one: we went from Saxon Hut to the James Mackay Hut (“3”). On our fourth day on the Heaphy Track, 20 October, we dropped down from the James Mackay Hut to sea-level and spent the night in the Heaphy Hut. On 21 October – our fifth and final day’s walk – we headed south from the Heaphy Hut and hiked along the coast to the Kohaihai Shelter at West Coast end / start of the track. |
