The Larapinta Trail, 2023 |
 Day 5 (Tuesday, 2 May 2023) – Section 12 of the Larapinta Trail (i.e., climbing Mt Sonder): On the way down, I couldn’t resist taking a photograph of these ants, because they reminded me of my last visit to the Northern Territory. In 2013, a four-person research party, led by Dr Heloise Gibb from La Trobe University, climbed part-way up Mt Zeil with Eric Hodge and me in order to collect invertebrate samples – predominantly ants – from traps that they’d laid on the mountain. We’d enjoyed their company, and appreciated their advice about the best route to take up Mt Zeil. |
