 In Kathmandu: The tree and swastika were both being used as symbols by the Nepali Congress Party in these wall paintings, because – long before Hitler and the German National Socialists adopted it as a political symbol – the swastika was widely used on the Indian sub-continent as a symbol invoking Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, and auspiciousness. |
