Thursday, 3 October 1991 – From Jiri to Shivalaya: During our first five days’ trekking, we were heading east, and each day our route took us from one river valley, up and over a pass, and down into another river valley. On the first day of our trek, we left Jiri, which is at 1,905 metres above sea-level, climbed up to 2,350 metres, and then dropped down to Shivalaya, which is at 1,767 metres above sea-level. This photograph was taken when we stopped for lunch near the top of the ridge separating the valley in which Jiri is situated from the Khimti Khola valley, which contains Shivalaya. From left to right are Eric, Rod, Diane, Ralph, Jon, Dave, Geoff (studying a map), and Mike. |
