Thursday, 10 October 1991 – From Surkhe to Phakding: The hike from Surkhe to Phakding was probably the easiest and most beautiful of the first eight days of our trek. We went from 2,339 metres to only 2,652 metres above sea-level, and we arrived at our campsite by 11:40 am. We were now less than two days’ walk from Namche Bazar, and as we neared the main Himalayan ranges, the views became ever more spectacular. The peak on the right is Kusum Kanguru (6,367 metres). |
