An attempt on Lobuje East, 1991

Sunday, 13 October 1991 – From Namche Bazar to Kyangjuma: This is a photograph of another of the maps in Ryohei Uchida’s book, Kathmandu to Everest. It shows where we went after we left Namche Bazar. The rough location of our first stop, Kyangjuma, is marked with a red triangle. The names of the three villages that we then stayed in – Dole, Machhermo, and Gokyo – have all been underlined. Our campsite at the foot of the Cho La has been marked with a red triangle, and so too have the approximate locations of both our Lobuje East base camp and our advanced base camp on the mountain. After attempting to climb Lobuje East, we trekked back to Namche Bazar via Dingboche and Tengboche, and the names of both these villages are also underlined on this map.
