An attempt on Lobuje East, 1991

Sunday, 20 October 1991 – From Gokyo to the foot of the Cho La pass: We left Gokyo at 9:00 am, trekked down the valley to a spot where we could safely cross the Ngozumpa glacier, and then headed east to the foot of the Cho La pass. As I wrote in my diary, crossing the Ngozumpa glacier “took the better part of an hour and was not especially easy. We wound our way up and down huge dunes of moraine atop the ice.” In this photograph, Dave Little can be seen making his way slowly up one of the moraine dunes.
