Thursday, 24 October 1991 – Our Lobuje East summit attempt: Dave had brought a small vial with him that contained the ashes of one of his patients who had died earlier in the year, before the patient was able to make his own planned trip to Nepal. Dave had, therefore, promised his patient that he would take some of his ashes to Nepal and bury them at our expedition’s highest point. Even though we weren’t standing on the summit of Lobuje East (as we had, of course, hoped would have been the case), it was a brief but moving ceremony. The mountain behind Dave is Taboche. |
