An attempt on Lobuje East, 1991 |
 Thursday, 24 October 1991 – Our Lobuje East summit attempt: … I took this photograph of Ralph abseiling down the third and final 50-metre rope. We completed the abseiling by about 1:00 pm, and then made our way cautiously back down to our advanced base camp. After a brief rest there, and sharing a much-needed chocolate bar with Eric, we set off down the mountain again at 2:30 pm. It took us only 40 minutes to reach base camp, but because we were tired and disappointed by the day’s outcome, I confess our final descent seemed considerably longer. |
