Climbing Mauna Kea



At 6:50 am there was an attractive red glow on Mauna Loa, the 13,679-foot / 4,169-metre high volcano that dominates the southern two-thirds of the island of Hawaii. If Mauna Kea can be said to be the word’s tallest mountain (from its base below the sea to its 13,796-foot summit), then – in a similar manner – Mauna Loa can be described as the world’s largest mountain.
