 Because Eric Hodge and an old Chipping Campden school-friend of his, Roger Powell, hadn’t yet arrived in Saas-Grund, I went for a solo acclimatisation hike on Thursday, 5 August 2004, heading up the lower slopes of Weissmies, a 4,027-metre / 13,212-foot high peak on the eastern side of the Saas valley. This is a picture that I took looking back down onto part of the village of Saas-Grund soon after I started zigzagging my way up the hill. |
