Climbing Mont Blanc

Reaching the Refuge du Goûter – 3,817 metres / 12,523 feet above sea-level – meant not only that we were now higher than the summit of Mt Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand, but also that Eric and I were now considerably higher (roughly 400 metres / 1,300 feet or so higher) than we’d been on any of our acclimatisation climbs. I’m delighted to report that both of us felt good.
