Mt Arvon, Michigan

It’s highly appropriate that the blue shield in the centre of the Michigan state flag depicts a lake, because Michigan is unique among the 50 states. It alone borders four of the five Great Lakes (while no other state incorporates more than two of them). Less appropriate is the fact that the animals on either side of the shield are an elk and a moose: both species were hunted to extinction in Michigan in the 19th century (though both have since been reintroduced in the state).
