 Lake Placid was very crowded. A Half Ironman was being held on the day after we arrived in the town – that is, on the day we wanted to climb Mt Marcy – and we discovered that the Half Ironman was going to have a significant effect on our plans: in order for the triathlon to be held, the police were going to close New York state route 73 at 5:00 am the following day. This was the cause of considerable consternation for us, because we had to drive on NY-73 in order to get back to Adirondack Loj Road and access the trailhead for the route up Mt Marcy.
