 Heather arriving at the spot where a track to the summit of Mt Tongariro heads off to the left. On this occasion, Heather and I didn’t veer off and climb Tongariro (I’d climbed it in 1990 with Kurt Wetzel and Evan Roberts). Instead, we continued making our way towards the highest point of our walk – to the top of the Red Crater, which can be seen on the right-hand skyline. |
