 The Tongariro Alpine Crossing track was closed at this point – so much so that local Maori had instituted a “rahui” (a protective restriction), which will only be lifted when “the route is restored and the threat from … dams [formed by volcanic debris] and further eruptions is reduced.” I was pleased to see that a couple of Harry Keys’ photos were being used to illustrate the extent of the damage caused by the 2012 eruptions. |
