 All told it took Heather and me an hour and twenty minutes to get from the lowest Emerald Lake to the foot of the lava flow. We were clearly making much slower progress than the advertised time of one-and-a-half hours from the Central Crater turnoff to the Oturere hut. What is more (and little did we know it at the time), we still had an hour to go before we reached the hut. |
