… Henry V was born in Monmouth Castle in 1387. This statue of Henry V stands high above Agincourt Square in the centre of the town. In William Shakespeare’s play, Henry V, much is made of King Henry’s origins. At one stage, for example, Henry V says:
I wear [the leek] for a memorable honour;
For I am Welsh, you know, good countryman. |
