 Flashback: Bob and Barbara Meeker have lived in the Kent, Ohio, area all their lives. Barbara attended Kent State High School, and Bob was at Roosevelt High (his photo was taken from the school’s 1946 yearbook). Theirs is a wonderful story: they eloped shortly before they graduated from high school in 1946, so that Barbara would be able to live as a married woman with Bob while he was in the army. However, a few days before Bob was scheduled to start active service, the draft was cancelled and Bob’s call-up lapsed. As a result, Bob and Barbara have been together – in sickness and in health – for more than 67 years. |
