Portuguese Caminos de Santiago |
 Day 7 (Tuesday, 3 October 2017) – Cossourado to Valença (13.4 kilometres / 8.3 miles): After the morning mists had evaporated, we experienced yet another cloudless day. Most of the days we were on the Caminhos Português, the temperatures were in the high-20s Celsius / the low-80s Fahrenheit. We experienced no rain at all, and the ground was parched. In addition, of course, as can be seen in this picture, there are extensive eucalypt plantations in both Portugal and Spain. It’s a recipe for disaster – and, sure enough, in mid-October (while Heather and I were on our way back to Porto) forest fires in northern Portugal killed more than 30 people. |
