 Day 18 (Saturday, 14 October 2017) – Vila Praia de Âncora to Viana do Castelo (we walked 18.7 kilometres / 11.6 miles): In the late afternoon, we wandered down to the town’s Lima river waterfront. This massive broken chains monument was opened on 25 April 1999 – the 25th anniversary of the “carnation revolution” in which army officers overthrew the dictatorial regime of Antonio Salazar’s successor. |
