Rhodesia, July 1960
|
On Saturday morning, 2 July 1960, Richard and I got one ride straight through to Bulawayo, where we spent the night with family friends, Denis and Patricia Thompson. The following day we headed north again, and quickly got a ride with a Mr and Mrs Oliphant, who not only drove us from the outskirts of Bulawayo through to the coal-mining town of Wankie, but also put us up for the night in their Wimbledon Drive home. During the first of two rest-stops that the Oliphants made during the drive to Wankie, I took this photograph of Richard standing next to an elephant’s skull outside the Kenmaur Stores. |
