Climbing Wheeler Peak

The track from Williams Lake to the summit of Wheeler Peak was given a major upgrade in 2011. It was formerly a very steep slog (described by Charlie and Diane Winger as “a well-defined but unmarked trail heading uphill … with sections of up to 60 degrees”); now it’s known as trail 67 in the Carson National Forest and consists of a well-benched series of zig-zags / switchbacks – including some very long ones – that gradually climb all the way to the peak’s summit ridge. Here is Eric zigging his way up one of the earlier switchbacks.
