We reached the 13,161 foot- / 4,011 metre-high summit of Wheeler Peak at 9:15 am – 3 hours and 7 minutes after leaving the Taos Ski Valley hikers’ parking lot. We’d gained 902 metres, just under 3,000 feet, in that time – confirming an old rule of thumb which says that climbing a thousand feet an hour is a reasonably solid pace. |
