Climbing Wheeler Peak
We reached the Bavarian lodge at 12:05 pm. Our hike to the summit of Wheeler Peak and back down – a total distance of slightly more than 8 miles (about 13 kilometres) – had taken us just under six hours. Although it was the easiest of the western United States highpoints that Eric and I have climbed together, all four of us were fairly tired when we reached the Bavarian, but strong coffee and apple strudel soon got us going again (which in Eric’s and my case was back to Albuquerque).
