 Mississippi was the twentieth state to join the Union. Whereas Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia were among the original 13 states and are thus be said to be a part of the “Old South”, Mississippi – flanked as it is by Alabama and Louisiana – can be described as a corner stone of the “Deep South”. In April and May 2014, I visited Mississippi for the first time. |
