 The Natchez Trace is a centuries-old route that was used by native American Indians, colonial traders, and other travellers. More than 200 years ago, Thomas Jefferson declared the Trace a national post road for delivering mail. To quote from a National Park Service pamphlet, “where the ground was relatively soft, walkers, riders, and wagons wore down sunken sections” … such as the section of the original Trace that’s seen in this photograph. |
