Climbing Mt Woodroffe

Lee Brady, a Pitjantjatjara leader and custodian of the mountain, briefed us about the significance of Mt Woodroffe / Ngarutjaranya for the Anangu Pitjantjatjara (i.e., for the Pitjantjatjara people), who regard the mountain as sacred because of its place in the creation story about Wati Ngintaka, the giant perentie lizard-man. (Perenties are Australia’s largest monitor lizard or goanna.)
