At 4:30 pm, the final party to complete the climb – from left to right, Lee Brady, Simon Bignold, Carsten Jensen, and John Bignold – reached SEIT’s vehicles. Their safe return meant that 29 people successfully climbed Mt Woodroffe on 18 May 2013 – namely, 26 clients, two SEIT staffers (Chris Gamgee and Page Dosen), and – last but most certainly not least – Lee, one of the traditional custodians of Mt Woodroffe / Ngarutjaranya. I wonder if so many people have ever before climbed the mountain on just one day. By way of comparison, SEIT’s 2010 Woodroffe expedition saw only five people summit, and the company’s 2012 expedition was cancelled because of a lack of numbers. |
