Climbing Mt Zeil



Alongside the telegraph station is the site of a waterhole that was found in the Todd River bed in 1871 and named “Alice Spring” in honour of the wife of Charles Todd, South Australia’s Superintendent of Telegraphs. The adjacent township was officially called Stuart until 1933. However, thanks to novelist Neville Shute’s book A Town Like Alice, its new name is now known widely throughout the world.
