KANGAROO ISLAND HISTORY: During his epic voyage of discovery around
Australia, Matthew Flinders landed on and named Kangaroo Island on 2 March
1802. When Flinders explored the island, there were no indigenous aboriginal
inhabitants, and it appears that if there were any pre-historic
aborigines who
lived on the island, they would have left it about ten thousand years ago
(prior to sea-level rises at the end of the last ice-age).
