 We reached Anchorage Bay at 7:15 pm. Our first day’s walk – 12.4 kilometres / 7.7 miles – had taken us 4 hours and 40 minutes. Given that the Department of Conservation’s (DoC’s) current advice is that the hike from Marahau to Anchorage takes four hours, the time taken by Evan, an eight-year-old carrying a pack containing his sleeping bag and clothes, was pretty impressive. Not unexpectedly, the Anchorage Hut was full, so we pitched our tent and camped near the hut. |
