The Dingle Way, 2025

Day 3 (Saturday, 6 September 2025) – Cuas (An Chlais) to Cloghane (An Clochan): During our descent, we came across this plaque on the slopes of Mount Brandon recalling an accident on 20 December 1943 when a Vickers Wellington – part of a Polish squadron serving with the RAF – crashed into a ridge on Mount Brandon. All six crew were killed. It’s interesting to reflect on the fact that because Ireland was neutral during the Second World War, the six airmen weren’t buried nearby. Instead their bodies were transported to Northern Ireland and buried there.
