Day 5 (Monday, 8 September 2025) – Scraggane Pier to Camp (An Cam): Half an hour after leaving our lunch spot, we reached the outskirts of Castlegregory. The village was named after a castle that was built in 1550 by Gregory Hoare, but no longer exists. What does exist, though, is this GAA sports field. GAA are the widely-used initials of the Gaelic Athletic Association, and the main sports under its umbrella are hurling and the hugely popular Gaelic football. At times it seemed as though every second property we passed during out seven-day Dingle Way walk was proudly flying the Kerry GAA flag. Castlegregory was also very proud of the fact that its team had been the All Ireland Junior Club Football Champions in 2010. |
