 Day 6 (Tuesday, 9 September 2025) – Camp (An Cam) to Annascaul (Abhainn an Scail): The best-known building in Annascaul is the South Pole Inn. In the early years of the 20th Century, Tom Crean – a native of Annascaul – went on three “Heroic Age” expeditions to Antarctica, twice with Robert Falcon Scott and once with Ernest Shackleton. He bought this pub in 1917 and named it the South Pole Inn (though Crean, himself, never got to the South Pole). |
