 Day 18 (2 October 1969) – COPENHAGEN: During our first afternoon in Copenhagen, we went to see the Little Mermaid statue. I no longer have the slide I took of it, but I do have this photo that I took of the nearby Gefion fountain. It’s the largest monument in Copenhagen, and – a bit like the Maori mythical story about Maui fishing the North Island up from the sea – the Gefion fountain’s statues depict the Norse goddess, Gefion, ploughing the island of Zealand up out of Sweden. |
