 Day 26 (10 October 1969) – THE BERLIN WALL: The Berlin Wall was built in 1961 by the East German government in an attempt to prevent East German citizens fleeing to the West. It quickly came to be regarded as a classic symbol of the Cold War. This photograph was, of course, taken looking over the wall from West Berlin at rows of tank traps and cleared land and towards old and new buildings in the east. |
